On Mar. 24, the men’s and women’s golf teams kicked off the spring season with the Revolutionary Collegiate Classic in Rising Sun, MD. The two day event had both squads facing off with six other schools and after a rather disappointing display in the fall, both teams put on a nice showing in the inaugural match of spring 2019.

The ladies closed out the tournament in third place behind only Jefferson and Drew, and second out of the four Division III schools that participated. Aine Filler ‘19 understands that although the first tournament may have been a little rough, there is still plenty of time improve scores even further.

“The first few rounds were chilly, but we performed pretty well despite the conditions. Honestly, I haven’t done too many great things individually yet, but this was our first tournament, and there is still a lot of the season left. The future outlook for the rest of the season looks bright and I think we can get a few wins in before heading of to the Conference Championships at the end of April,” said Filler.

On the men’s side of the tournament, the Mules left Rising Sun in second place with Ben Lieberman ‘19 leading the way ending in second as well and a 154 total after 36 holes. The men beat out Centennial Conference rival in Ursinus, who concluded the tournament in fifth.

Filler is extremely excited about the potential her team has and is highly confident that they can go far this spring. “We have a lot of potential. We have a few younger players who are looking really solid and as long as we all continue to shoot well, I am confident that we will be a strong competitor throughout the season.” Filler continued, “we have a newcomer on the team this season in Katie Chen and she is really committed to the sport. She has kind of reminded us all of why we love the sport; watching her get excited about golf makes us excited” Filler added.

Since the opening tournament, the women wrapped up their second of the season, the Alvernia Invitational, where they came in seventh in a field of eight, while the men have since finished two additional invitationals at 13th and third places respectively.

The spring season is in full swing and both squads are eager to compete and show off their tremendous potential.
