Mission Statement and Membership Information

Mission Statement

Since 1883, The Muhlenberg Weekly has been the official, independent student-run newspaper of Muhlenberg College. The staff of The Weekly will strive to cover important topics effecting the Muhlenberg College Community, which includes students, faculty, staff, alumni, and parents. The Weekly will be an open forum where all students are able to contribute and voice their opinions, regardless of experience or involvement with the newspaper. All content not appearing in the Opinion/Editorial section shall be delivered objectively and as accurately as possible, while upholding the standards set forth by the Associated Collegiate Press Model Code of Ethics, Fourth Edition.

Membership

Eligibility – Membership will be open to all full-time Muhlenberg students, including Wescoe or commuting students.

1. Non-discrimination Policy – The Weekly shall not discriminate membership on the basis of race, religion, color, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, veteran status, marital status, or national origin. The Weekly is committed to establishing and maintaining an inclusive environment for all students. All potential violations of this policy should be submitted, in writing, to the Editor-in-Chief (EIC) and Faculty Adviser.

2. Anti-Hazing Policy – Hazing will not be tolerated in any form at The Weekly. As such, The Weekly will ensure that its members will not practice in any physically or psychologically abusive hazing behaviors, either intentionally or unintentionally. All potential violations of this policy should be submitted, in writing, to the EIC and Faculty Adviser.

Dues – The Weekly receives funding exclusively from the Student Government Association and through advertising revenue. Thus, there will be no dues of any kind required of students who wish to contribute to The Weekly.
