A Business Master’s structured for non-business undergrads that you can earn in nine months – that’s what ‘Berg offers now through a partnership with Boston University Questrom School of Business (BU).
BU’s Master’s of Science in Management Studies (MSMS) program is a single-year master’s program that challenges students to solve real-world business problems with real companies, as opposed to listening to a lecture or reading from a textbook — all with no prior business knowledge required. Although the program is mostly student-driven, with grads placed in small groups, a team of professors and business mentors will occasionally hold short lessons based on the day’s problems.
In this new partnership, announced on Thanksgiving day, Muhlenberg undergraduates of any degree can apply for conditional admission to this program as well as try for scholarships. BU’s MSMS program has a rolling deadline, one of which was this past November. Students who submit applications by Feb. 1 will receive their admissions decision by mid-March and those submitted by Apr. 4 will hear by May 4.
According to Dr. Bruce Anderson, Dean of Academic Life at Muhlenberg, “BU is particularly interested in science, math, psychology and humanities majors.”
The course is divided into four modules, each one focusing on a different aspect of management, such as growth, innovation, and solution, in which students help real-world companies achieve these goals.
All in all, the MSMS program is a unique opportunity, explained Anderson.
“It’s a very unique approach,” said Anderson, “but one that sounds exciting and provides great, real world experience to the students.”
Its atypical structure earned the program recognition from Poets and Quants, who named it one of “The Most Innovative Business School Ideas of 2015.” Since its launch, students have worked alongside companies such as AT&T, Cloud technology company, and Fidelity, to name a few. This year’s company partners include Cloud Technology Partners, SallieMae, SwapOnz, Mei Mei, Novartis, and C_space.
President John I. Williams, Jr. sees this program as a triumph for the liberal arts education.
“Our new partnership with Boston University Questrom School of Business affirms the lifelong skills and career potential provided by an education that practices and embraces the liberal arts,” said Williams in a College press release.
Indeed, a Muhlenberg degree opens a lot of (red) doors.
