enACT (Environmental Action Team) is thrilled to initiate our bi-weekly column, providing sustainable action updates on campus!

STARS CERTIFICATION

Before the pandemic, Muhlenberg received the STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System) Gold Certification. This self-reporting system promotes transparency around sustainability initiatives for colleges and universities. Due to a lack of reporting data, we did not receive the certification in 2021. Muhlenberg hired a new intern to report the data and we’re confident that we will regain gold certification in the fall of 2022.

SYNTHETIC SOCCER FIELD

The Plant Operations department is working to renovate the soccer field north of Walz Hall. Their current plans are to transition our natural grass to a synthetic turf field. Our natural fields account for most of the herbicide use on campus. By making this switch, maintenance will be decreased and herbicide use will be reduced. This will hopefully be completed by the beginning of the fall 2022 semester.
