Alumni Weekend at Muhlenberg College is more than a tradition; it’s a reunion that bridges decades. This year’s festivities brought together alumni from the 1960s to recent graduates, all eager to reconnect with old friends, revisit cherished memories and celebrate the lasting impact of their Muhlenberg experience. From engaging in “Classes Without Quizzes” to tailgates and the beloved ’Berg Bash, the weekend was filled with laughter, learning and reflection.

Friday’s “Classes Without Quizzes” transported alumni back to the classroom, offering them a chance to learn from professors once again. One of the sessions, “Eating Italian-Jewish Style,” led by Lecturer in Italian and French Daniela Viale, was an interactive exploration of Italian-Jewish history and cuisine. Alumni of all ages filled the room, creating a dynamic reminiscent of a Muhlenberg classroom today—nervous energy, humor and deep engagement. Sherry ’69, Susan ’71 and Robert ’69 were engaged in the lively discussion and shared their enjoyment of the class. Susan remarked, “It’s amazing how professors can hold a room’s attention for so long,” a sentiment echoed by the others with enthusiasm. Unfortunately, their name tags only displayed first names, making it hard to gather full identities. The group of alumni was delighted to be reunited, reminiscing about their college days and reflecting on how the bonds they formed have lasted a lifetime. They also noted that many of their fellow classmates from the same era were present, creating numerous beautiful opportunities to reconnect and share memories.

“Many noted that the relationships they built during their time at college have been invaluable, providing a network of support that extends far beyond graduation.”

Saturday was a day of fun and excitement, beginning with the Alumni Tailgate at Alumni Court and continuing with the Homecoming Fair on Parents Plaza and College Green. Alumni of all ages, many accompanied by their families, enjoyed a true homecoming atmosphere. The fair offered a variety of activities, including a petting zoo filled with ponies, goats, bunnies and more, alongside performances from student dance and music groups, and circus-like attractions such as juggling and frisbee. Current students found the fair to be a lively blend of nostalgia and new experiences, engaging with alumni and learning about the traditions that define the Muhlenberg spirit.

The excitement of Alumni Weekend reached new heights during Saturday’s football game at the Scotty Wood Stadium, where the Muhlenberg Mules faced The College of New Jersey (TCNJ). Alumni from various classes packed the stands, proudly wearing their Muhlenberg gear and cheering for their alma mater. Generations of Mules united in support, with players from as far back as 1974 mingling with recent graduates. The atmosphere was electric, with cheerleaders energizing the crowd and Marti the Mule rallying support. In a thrilling finish, Muhlenberg secured a nail-biting 55-52 victory, leaving alumni and students alike in high spirits. Many alumni reminisced about their own college days, reflecting on the joy of attending games and the camaraderie that came with being a student-athlete or a dedicated fan.

The celebration reached its peak Saturday night at the ’Berg Bash, where alumni gathered under a big tent on Trexler Library Lawn for an evening of lively music, food and dancing. The festive atmosphere encapsulated the essence of the weekend: a joyful reconnection with Muhlenberg, filled with memories and milestones. Alumni shared stories of their time at Muhlenberg, highlighting how their education shaped their careers and personal lives. Many noted that the relationships they built during their time at college have been invaluable, providing a network of support that extends far beyond graduation. Conversations flowed as alumni shared their journeys since leaving campus, often linking their current successes back to their formative experiences at Muhlenberg.

Interviews with alumni revealed a deep affection for their college experience. Many expressed gratitude for the connections they made with professors and fellow students, emphasizing how those relationships had a lasting impact on their personal and professional lives. For instance, some alumni shared that their professors not only taught them academic content but also instilled a sense of confidence and resilience that helped them navigate challenges later in life. Others reminisced about late-night study sessions and campus events that fostered a strong sense of community.

Alumni Weekend offered something for everyone, from intellectual engagement to lighthearted fun. Whether attending a class, reliving the excitement of a Muhlenberg football game or dancing at the ’Berg Bash, Muhlenberg alumni were reminded that their college experience extends far beyond graduation. As the weekend came to a close, the shared sentiment among many was simple: the Muhlenberg community is more than just a school—it’s a lifelong home. With every reunion, alumni reaffirm their commitment to the college that shaped their lives, ensuring that the bonds forged during their time at Muhlenberg will continue to thrive for generations to come. The connections made during this weekend not only celebrate the past but also lay the groundwork for future engagement and support within the Muhlenberg family.
