Men's golf competed at the Lions Fall Invitational on Sept. 12, their season opener.

On Sept. 12, the Muhlenberg men’s golf team opened their 2024-25 season at Albright College’s Lions Fall Invitational in Wilmington, Del. This marks the start of a new chapter for the team. After finishing sixth in the Centennial Conference Championship last spring, the Mules are back on campus and ready to play.  The Mules made a strong impression in the season opener and finished fourth out of seven competitive schools only behind Albright, Hood and Elizabethtown.

“The fall will be more of a battle as we lost a lot of seniors last year.”

Alex McCauley ’26 shed light on what the team has done in preparation for this upcoming fall season: “This year, unlike last, we started our workout program much earlier and that is going to help us with conditioning and team chemistry. Our first-years are very eager to get to the course so we have been practicing more as a team ever before. We need to focus more on specific aspects of our skill sets to get even better.” This proactive approach, McCauley emphasized, has created a strong foundation for improving individual skills, while the team looks to fine-tune their game as the season progresses.

The chemistry and preparation were apparent on Thursday as five of the six competing Mules birdied, meaning they shot below par, on one or more holes. Among the standout moments, Ryan Tasetano ’27 birdied the longest hole on the course with an impressive 582-yard tenth hole. As McCauley predicted, the first-year players were eager to contribute, with Corey Gold ‘28 and Justin Edwards ‘28 making their marks by birdieing the par-4 second and fifth holes.

“Looking ahead, McCauley ‘26 has “high hopes for this year,” but not without challenges ahead, particularly in light of the loss of several senior players from last year. He acknowledged the need to reestablish team dynamics while expressing optimism for the season.”

Looking ahead, McCauley has “high hopes for this year,”  but not without challenges ahead, particularly in light of the loss of several senior players from last year. He acknowledged the need to re-establish team dynamics while expressing optimism for the season. “The fall will be more of a battle as we lost a lot of seniors last year. We need to reconstruct our team dynamic and get ready for competitive golf. I expect improvement in all aspects this season. Especially tournament results.”

As they gear up for their next invitational on Sept. 23. in Carlisle, Pa., the Muhlenberg golf team is embracing the momentum they’ve built and are eager to continue improving their performances throughout the fall season. Their focus on preparation, chemistry and skill development indicates that this could be a promising year for the Mules.
