The Mules played a home game against Vassar College this past Friday, Sept. 20, leading them to their fifth straight win of the season. They have earned wins from Moravian University, Fairleigh Dickinson University Florham, Utica University and Misericordia University. This season, the Mules have outscored all their opponents 21-1 in a truly dominant performance. A real highlight of the game was Co-Captain Erin DiSandro ‘26, as she got the first hat trick of her career and the first by a Mule since 2016.
This week, Co-Captain Mikayla DeMichele ‘25 expresses her optimism and excitement about the conference play coming this Saturday, Sept. 28 at Gettysburg College. “Each game we have played so far has been a true team win where every athlete on the field contributed to our overall success. There is so much potential and talent on this year’s team and I have a strong feeling we will continue to witness this team flourish and succeed in the future.” DeMichele contributes the team’s success to there being “a lot of chemistry and connection on the team this year that allows us to be so successful in our gameplay. Each person on the team contributes their own unique skills and assets to our accomplishments.”

The rivalry between Johns Hopkins University and Muhlenberg continues to run deep. As DeMichele says, “I am most excited to play Johns Hopkins again because I think our team can really give them a run for their money.” Last year, the Mules unfortunately lost their play-in bid playoff game versus Dickinson College in double overtime, but this year DeMichele is hoping to turn that around. “One major goal I have for this year is making it to playoffs and with this team, I think that is definitely possible”.
Abba Diglio ‘26 has been a standout player this year for the Mules. Whenever you read a game recap about how the Mules field hockey team played, DiSandro and Diglio are always in the same conversation. Both of them have worked exceptionally well together for the past few years. “Erin and I are so compatible because of our trust,” Diglio shared. “I trust her as a player and person. We have built great chemistry from these three years of working together. We understand each other’s playing styles, how to get each other the ball and where we will be without even communicating. We know how to complement each other’s strengths and cover each other’s weaknesses. This year we have gotten better at overlapping each other.”
The Mules are also very active on their Instagram page, as they post their “Mule of the Day.” In order to receive the award, Diglio explained that “The player has to express grit, work hard and stand out all practice. They are looking out for other players and have good sportsmanship.”
Diglio also adds her excitement for the upcoming Centennial Conference play, “We are confident but we are still hungry.” She is aware that the rest of the season is going to be a lot of hard work, as the next few weeks are only conference games, so the Mules must be on their best game. “We understand we have been playing well, but we know our competition only gets harder and we cannot get comfortable.”
